Coordinator, DLC-SAVA Conservation

The Duke Lemur Center supports conservation in Madagascar. We partner with local stakeholders, like Evrard Benasoavina, to restore landscapes and to safeguard the environment. Evrard founded the New Generation School Garden, an interpretive center and outdoor classroom, complete with diverse forms of sustainable agriculture and reforestation.

Last month, the Environmental Club in Sambava came to the School Garden to plant trees. 40 students and their teachers from several high schools came and planted 200 trees, including native species and delicious fruits. They toured the garden, learned about agroforestry, and saw first-hand the value of the environment for nature and for people. Everyone had a great time and asked to come back for more activities in the future.

Evrard has come a long way with his New Generation School Garden. With over 1,000 visitors over the last two years, he is inspiring people of all ages to protect the environment. Now, Evrard has significant opportunities to expand his work. If Evrard’s goal resonates with you, please consider making a tax-deductible donation, with specific requests to support Evrard and his New Generation School Garden, on our Targeted Impact Gifts site.
