Reservations Essential

You are welcome to visit the gift shop, but please note that to see the lemurs, you must have a prepaid tour reservation. You can explore tour options via our onsite tours homepage.

Directions

We’re located at 3705 Erwin Road in Durham, NC. Please use our main entrance off Erwin Road, regardless of where your GPS directs you. Here are detailed directions:

Look for a big “Duke Lemur Center” sign with our logo at the entrance to our drive. Drive straight up the lane, take a 90-degree curve, and the road will turn to gravel. Pass the forestry station on your left and keep going!

Eventually you’ll reach our main gates—tall chainlink with electronet. Drive through the main gate, pass the small faculty/staff /overflow parking lot on your right, and pass two small brown buildings. Then you’ll reach our main U-shaped parking lot, and park there.

Please check in for your tour at Lemur Landing, our main visitor center. It’s the small brown building with the big handicap ramp immediately next to the parking lot.

We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes in advance of your tour’s start time, so that you have time to complete check-in and to use the restroom (if needed) before venturing out into the forest or onto the tour path with your guide.

Using GPS or Google Maps? Occasionally these will direct visitors to the gated, private forestry entrance off Cornwallis Road. Please DO NOT use the Cornwallis entrance as the gates may be closed. If your GPS takes you to the Cornwallis entrance, please follow the map below to our main entrance on Erwin Road.

No Pets, Please

Because the DLC houses critically endangered primates, we cannot allow pet animals anywhere on the DLC groundsnot even inside your vehicle. For our lemurs’ health and safety and for your pets’, please leave your pup at home.

If you have a service dog, see the “Accessibility” tab on our Visitor FAQ. For the summer of 2025, we regret that we cannot allow service dogs onsite until at least mid-June. Here’s why.
