Note to visitors
Please note that all tours are by appointment only, and that you must have tour reservations to see the animals. You can explore general and premium tour options via our tours homepage – we offer tours for all ages, budgets, and backgrounds! Tours often book weeks in advance, and generally we cannot accommodate walk-in visitors. You are, however, always welcome to call us just in case we have tour openings remaining on a particular day: (919) 401-7240. It never hurts to check, especially if you’re open to multiple types of tours.
The gift shop is open to the public without appointment from 9:00 a.m. ’til 4:00 p.m. seven days a week. Parking is simple and free.
No pets, please
Because the DLC houses critically endangered primates, we cannot allow pet animals anywhere on the DLC grounds – not even inside your vehicle. For our lemurs’ health and safety and for your pet’s, please leave your pup at home. If you have a service dog, see the “Accessibility” tab on our Visitor FAQ.
Address and directions
The Duke Lemur Center is located in Duke Forest, less than 10 minutes from Duke’s main West Campus.
Starting October 20, please do not use the DLC’s entrance via Lemur Lane (off of Erwin Road), as Lemur Lane is closed for construction through the end of March 2020. Instead, please follow these directions, which will bring you in via our back entrance via Cornwallis Road:
1. Turn onto Erwin Road via the roundabout from NC-751. Pass the entrance to Lemur Lane on your left. At the light, turn left onto Cornwallis Road.
2. From Cornwallis, turn left onto the gravel lane (just past Ridge Road, which will be on your right). This is the rear entrance of the Lemur Center and will be marked with signage.
3. Drive through two gates. Continue driving until reaching the gravel U-shaped parking lot on your right.
4. Check in at Lemur Landing near parking lot (brown building with handicap ramp).
While Lemur Lane is under construction, please use this GPS address: 2692 W Cornwallis Road, Durham, NC. This will route you into the back entrance of the Lemur Center. From there, the road is clearly marked with signs and arrows directing you to the DLC’s main parking lot next to Lemur Landing.
If you have questions at any time, please call (919) 401-7240. The Lemur Landing staff will be happy to help!
