Join us on Earth Day weekend (April 24-25, 2021) for our second annual Stay Away 5K, a virtual race with all proceeds benefiting lemur care and conservation! Last year, this event enlisted participation from more than 2,000 runners and lemur lovers all over the world, including all 50 U.S. states, D.C., and 11 other countries.
We would love for you to be a part of the fun again this year—and we’d really appreciate your help spreading the word about it, too! This 5K is an important fundraiser and awareness-builder for the Duke Lemur Center’s work: learning from, caring for, and protecting lemurs – Earth’s most endangered mammals.
Here’s how you can register and help:
Register now via the 5K homepage! Your $30 registration fee benefits lemurs AND includes a Stay Away 5K commemorative t-shirt and decal. Then run or walk wherever you live, at any time during the April 24-25 weekend. Because this is a virtual run or walk, you and your family and friends can participate from anywhere in the world!
Share this race on community calendars and neighborhood listservs, and with running clubs and community organizations in your area!
Share our posts on social media, and forward this post to others you know who might be interested in our 5K.
We’ve streamlined the registration process this year to make it easier to register a team of friends, family, or coworkers no matter where they live. We also welcome company teams, so please share this information with your employer if they might consider it!
Thank you!
With the center’s closure due to COVID-19, your support means more than ever! In a typical year, the DLC earns 21% of its annual revenue from tours, merchandise sales, facility rentals, and fees. However, because of COVID-19, 2020-21 have been anything but typical—and all funds raised through this event will help us to make up for revenues that we would have otherwise generated from onsite tours and fundraisers. We’re so grateful for your support!
To see more about the DLC’s financial overview, please see our 2019 stewardship report.
If you have questions about registration or team options, please contact Melissa Dean at madean@duke.edu.
