Celebrate graduation with a visit to one of the gems of Duke University: the Duke Lemur Center!
Due to the high volume of interest we receive from the Duke community, Commencement Weekend (May 11-May 13) is an extremely busy one. If you would like to visit us that weekend, you must register and pay in advance by calling (919) 401-7240. Please be sure to read all of the available information about our Commencement Weekend tours (below) before calling to book your spot.
Thanks so much for your interest in visiting us. We look forward to meeting you soon!
We will host two three-hour-long open format tour sessions on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. (Please see the Tour Description tab below for more details about open format tours.) All six scheduling options are listed below:
Friday, May 11 9:30 a.m. 'til 12:30 p.m.
Friday, May 11 1:30 'til 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 12 9:30 a.m. 'til 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 12 1:30 'til 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 13 9:30 a.m. 'til 12:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 13 1:30 'til 4:30 p.m.
We cannot offer any Little Lemurs or private Lemurs Live tours on any of the Commencement Weekend dates listed above (May 11-May 13). Specialty tour options are available until filled.
The DLC's Commencement Weekend Open Format Tours utilize the same tour path as our Lemurs Live and Little Lemurs tours, and guests see the same lemurs and hear the same great info from staffers and volunteers stationed near the enclosures. But, instead of following a designated guide from station to station, visitors are encouraged to wander the path at their own pace and according to their own interests. This means that if a lemur is being especially cute you can linger by its enclosure and watch as long as you’d like; or, if a lemur is sleeping, you’ll have the freedom to pass by it and return later!
Once you have made your reservation, you can arrive any time between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (if you booked the morning tour) or between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. (if you booked the afternoon tour), and stay for as little or as long as you'd like. Please note, however, that the tour path closes at 12:30 and 4:30, so guests should to factor that into their arrival times.
