Circle of Life: How a lemur scientist came to study their mysterious predator
The name “fossa” strikes fear into the hearts of lemurs across Madagascar. As an undergraduate at Duke, Luke Dollar traveled to Madagascar to study lemurs. When his study lemur was eaten by a mysterious predator, Dollar realized that very little was known about the fossa. Two decades later, and Dr. Dollar has established conservation programs in Madagascar to fight habitat loss through local partnerships, leads regular EarthWatch research expeditions, and is the leading authority on the top predator of Madagascar. Please join us National Geographic Emerging Explorer and Conservation Scientist, Dr. Luke Dollar, to discuss lemurs, their predators and a way forward for conservation in Madagascar.
