Join us for an event to honor Charlie on May 17, 2025!
Save the date! We’re planning a retirement party to honor Charlie’s career on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Our Giving Society members will be invited to join us in celebrating his career in conservation. More information coming in early 2025!
“I would like to personally share with you, our friends and supporters, my plans to retire as DLC’s conservation coordinator effective one year from now, on Date.” – Charlie Welch, DLC Conservation Coordinator. Click here to read Charlie’s complete letter.
When Charlie retires in 2025, it will be a new chapter for the Duke Lemur Center’s work in Madagascar. Charlie will leave a rich legacy of conservation and biodiversity protection that he helped the DLC to establish, nurture, and cultivate. The DLC is fully committed to continuing this work and furthering his impact. Charlie will continue to serve the DLC in an advisory role. He will also lead the DLC’s first-ever Africa and Madagascar cruise through Duke Travels in October 2025. (link to preliminary info. on our site).
Plan now to share your “Charlie and Andrea stories” and photos! Coming in early 2025, we will invite you to share a special memory, well-wishes, and any photos that you have for us to include in a digital scrapbook for Charlie and his wife, Andrea Katz.
Honor Charlie’s Madagascar conservation legacy! As you plan your 2024 year-end gifts and develop plans for your giving in 2025, we invite you consider a special gift in his and Andrea’s honor toward this coming year’s budget: a contribution to the Madagascar Programs fund or a special “in perpetuity” gift to the DLC’s new endowment, The Charles Welch and Andrea Katz Fund.
Click here to learn more about The Charles Welch and Andrea Katz Fund. This fund was made possible thanks to early commitments from five generous founding donors, and provides a way for donors to designate special gifts* and legacy gifts, of any amount, to support the DLC in perpetuity.
