How to Get Involved

The DLC is an internationally renowned center for scientific inquiry, but you don’t have to be a professional scientist to get involved in lemur science! There are many ways for students and members of the general public to help us better understand lemurs.

For students

Students interested in developing their own independent projects or in the Research Internship program should contact our Director of Research, Dr. Erin Ehmke (erin.ehmke@duke.edu).

Please include a brief summary including who you are, the research questions that most interest you, why you want to participate in a particular project, and what you hope to gain. If you can, attach your updated CV/resume. (No prior research experience is necessary, but your CV will help us tailor a research experience to your career stage and background.) Also, please let us know if funding would be an obstacle to your participation.

For volunteers

The Research Department accepts volunteers to work as Research Assistants. Assistant opportunities will vary greatly depending on ongoing projects, but could include helping with fecal sampling, data collection, basic laboratory analyses, database management, etc.

Volunteers looking to assist more broadly can contact our Director of Research Erin Ehmke (erin.ehmke@duke.edu), or our Data Manager Amanda Greene (amanda.greene@duke.edu).

For graduate students, postdocs, and faculty

If you are a graduate student, postdoc, faculty member, or professional interested in conducting research at the DLC or in requesting biological samples, please see our information for external researchers.
