The Duke Lemur Center Gift Shop is open to the public Monday-Saturday from 10:00-4:00. Come and enjoy our enhanced retail space, restrooms, and classroom areas. In addition to the improved spaces, guests can enjoy new clothing and apparel, artwork, and souvenirs never before offered at the Center.

Lemur Art will now be available for sale by phone!  We cannot guarantee the artist or colors, but all art is done by the lemurs here at the Center.  5×7 are $12.50 and 8×10 are $2o.00 plus tax.  There will be a $7.95 shipping and handling charge for all purchases.  Please call 919-401-7240 to place your order!

Lemurs Live!

An ideal tour for families and friends, learn about the similarities and differences between lemur species and what makes lemurs some of the most fascinating animals in the world. Visitors will typically observe about 10 different species of lemurs. Bring you camera, as you will be amazed by these wonderful creatures!

Tour length: appx. 60-90 Minutes

Behind the Scenes

Would you like a close up view of the lemurs and to experience  the Center as only staff do?  Please join us on a tour of our updated facility and see how the Center funtions on a daily basis.  The is a perfect tour for the cooler weather!

Fees: $65/person

Offered: Oct 17th-April 30th

 

Age requirement- 10 years and older

 

Maximum Group Size- 8

 

Walking with Lemurs

Enter the world of the lemur as your guide escorts you where there are no barriers between you and the animals. Be sure to bring your camera as this experience offers views of the animals unlike any other.

Tour length: 60 Minutes

Offered: May 1 -Oct 15th THIS TOUR IS OVER FOR THE SEASON, PLEASE JOIN US ON THE BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR OR LEARNING WITH LEMURS!

Fees: $95.00 per participant

Age Requirement: 10 years through Adult

Maximum group size – Eight Participants

 

Learning with Lemurs

Join us for a lemur training and research session to see how we teach the animals behaviors that allow us to give them the very best of care. Guests on this exclusive tour participate in the session and assist animal care staff as they demonstrate the use of positive reinforcement to care for the animals.

Fees: $150.00 per participant

Offered- All year

Age Requirement: 12 years through Adult

Maximum group size – Two Participants

Lemur keeper for a day

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a Lemur Keeper? Well, find
out! Join one of our amazing lemur caretakers for a day and experience the
life of a keeper first-hand. You will be involved in all aspects of the daily
husbandry of our endangered prosimian primates here at the DLC. Help us
prepare diets, clean, feed, enrich, and whatever else happens that day (lemurs
ALWAYS keep you on your toes)! You will have a behind the scenes experience
that only staff members ever do. So put on your cleaning boots, grab a hose
AND your camera, and romp through the forest for a day with the lemurs! This
will be an experience you will never forget!

Fee: $350 per participant

Offered- All year

Participants must be at least 13 years old

 

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

Q.  Do I need to call ahead to visit the DLC?

A.  Yes, all tours are by appointment only.  Due to the nature of our Center, all visitors must be with a guide at all times.  Please call 919-401-7240 to book your tour.

Q.  What is your weather policy?

A.  Tour will go out rain or shine with the exception of threats of lighting in the forecast.  Please dress accordingly.

Q.  How long do tours last?

A.  Tour last approximately 1 hour.

Q.  Do I get to touch a lemur on the tour?

A. No.  For the safety of our animals and for your safety, no guests are allowed any physical contact with the animals here at the Center.

Q.  How far in advance do I need to make a reservation?

A. While our team will do all we can to accommodate you; we kindly request a week’s notice for tours.  During the winter months we may be able to make same day accomodations.

Q.  What is your cancellation policy?

A.  We kindly request 48 hours advanced notice for cancellations.

Q.  I have a scheduled tour, but notice restricted access signs on Lemur Lane.

A.  If you have a scheduled tour or would just like to visit the gift shop during business hours, please follow Lemur Lane  past the restricted access signs until you reach our parking lot.
