Name Zoboomafoo’s great-grandson!

Meet Cassia’s male infant! Born on February 11, 2026, he is the second offspring of Coquerel’s sifakas Cassia and Eustace. He joins this tight-knit family group with older brother Radama the Great, who turns one in April. Just like his older brother, this infant was born relatively small for his species—78 grams, versus the average of just over 100 grams—but has quickly gained weight thanks to his fighting spirit and attentive care from mom Cassia.

This infant is a member of an illustrious family: He is the great-grandson of Jovian, the lemur who played the famous Zoboomafoo!

Eustace continues to be the perfect sifaka father, taking the baby from Cassia to hold and groom while his mate sunbathes. He sang to Cassia and the infant the first time he met his new son. Big brother Radama has also been eager to interact with the new baby. According to the family’s primary keeper, Sarah K., “Radama is a curious first-time brother who enjoys licking his brother’s toes and tail like a spaghetti noodle.”

Sometimes, new infants in lemur families can cause additional tension in the group; in Cassia’s family, the birth of the new baby has instead bonded the trio even closer together. When mom needs some solo time to let the infant nurse, Eustace and Radama play wrestle with one another. Radama has always had a close relationship with mom Cassia, so it’s lovely to see him spending more time one-on-one with dad Eustace as he grows into a young adult.

Older brother Radama the Great was named last year through our Baby’s First Year: Ultimate Adoption Package by the donor of the Anna Borruel Codina Center for Lemur Medicine and Research. “Cassia was one of the first lemurs treated in the Borruel Center’s ICU,” says DLC Executive Director Greg Dye. “Given the role that the Borruel Center played in Cassia’s treatment and recovery, we thought it only fitting to allow the donor to choose the name of Cassia’s first infant.”

Coquerel’s sifakas born at the DLC traditionally receive ancient Roman names. Infants from recent years include Arcadius (named for a Roman emperor), Pax (named for the Roman goddess of peace), and Egeria (named for a consort to a Roman king who was rumored to be a nymph).
