This Giving Tuesday, we hope you’ll consider making a donation to support our mission to learn from, care for, and protect the lemurs of Madagascar—the most endangered group of mammals on Earth.

The videos below show how your donations directly support our animal care, welfare, and veterinary programs, as well as our on-the-ground conservation activities in Madagascar.

We realize there are many causes you can consider giving to today, but we hope you decide to donate to the Duke Lemur Center. Together, we can ensure that future generations never know a world without lemurs!

Animal Care and Welfare

Your tax-deductible donations enable us to provide world-class care, daily enrichment, and high-quality food for all 200+ animals in our care. We create individualized diet plans for every animal at the DLC, including fresh fruit and veggies grown on-site in our garden. Donate now!

Veterinary Medicine

The DLC is a global authority on lemur medicine. We are dedicated to providing individualized care to every animal throughout every stage of life. From ultrasounds and infant wellness exams to geriatric care, your tax-deductible donations allow our veterinary team to ensure that our lemurs of all ages stay as healthy as possible. We also share our expertise with veterinarians, students, and zookeepers around the world, improving the care and health of lemurs everywhere. Donate now!

Facilities and Maintenance

Our lemurs live on 100 acres in Duke Forest, with indoor/outdoor housing and access to naturally forested free-ranging enclosures. Your tax-deductible donation helps us maintain our forest habitats and provide housing that accommodates the varied needs of our 200+ primates. The Borruel Center, made possible through a generous donation, is home to our world-class veterinary medicine and non-invasive research programs. Our garden, maintained with the help of our incredible volunteers, allows us to grow fresh produce to feed to our lemurs. Donate now!

Scientific Discovery

The DLC is an internationally renowned center for non-invasive scientific research. Studying lemurs’ health, reproduction, and social dynamics informs their welfare in human care and conservation in the wild. It also has implications for understanding ourselves and other primates. At the DLC Museum of Natural History, researchers study extinctions in the past to help prevent extinctions in the future. We also provide grants and offer internships for undergraduate students interested in engaging with research projects at the DLC. Donate now!

Madagascar Conservation

Our DLC-SAVA Conservation program is 100% funded through grants and donations from lemur lovers like you! We aim to conserve biodiversity in Madagascar by supporting the livelihoods of rural people in forest-bordering communities and through collaborations with researchers, local communities and environmental organizations, and governmental institutions. Your tax-deductible donation helps us promote environmental education, reforestation, sustainable agriculture, rainforest protection, family planning, and conservation-oriented lemur research. Donate now!

Conservation Breeding Program

The Duke Lemur Center has celebrated over 3,400 births through our conservation breeding program since our founding in 1966. In collaboration with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), we are dedicated to maintaining a genetically diverse population of lemurs in human care, both here in the United States and in Madagascar. These infants aren’t just cute; they’re crucial for the survival of their species! Your tax-deductible donation helps us fight to protect these incredible primates from extinction. Donate now!

Education and Outreach

We’re proud to nurture the next generation of scientists and environmental stewards through tours, educational programs, internships, and research opportunities in Durham, in Madagascar, and beyond. Your tax-deductible donation helps fund outreach programs in local schools, the DLC Museum of Natural History, and on-site tours that welcome thousands of visitors a year from around the globe. Our website and social media platforms allow us to share online resources with educators and lemur lovers all over the world.

Through contributions from donors, we’ve been able to fund paid summer internships for the past two years. Since introducing paid internship positions, we have received more applications than ever before, making the applicant pool more competitive and including applicants from a broader range of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Donate now!

Thank You!

As Giving Tuesday draws to a close, we’d like to thank you for your support and generosity. All of the funds raised today will go directly to fund our animal care, welfare, and veterinary programs as well as our on-the-ground conservation programs in Madagascar. Your support means the world to us, and will also give us the chance to save the lemurs of Madagascar. On behalf of all of us at the Duke Lemur Center, thank you, and happy holidays!
