Meet Bonita’s female infant! This critically endangered mongoose lemur, born on March 31, is the first offspring of nine-year-old Bonita and 17-year-old Juanito.
Bonita’s female infant is gentle and curious, enamored with the larger-than-life world around her. Keepers who care for the family have described her as calm and sweet, and she has even been likened to a Disney princess—there is always a twinkle in her big, amber eyes!
Her current favorite activities include surfing on mom’s back and licking vegetables (she hasn’t quite figured out chewing yet!). She grows braver each day, taking small steps away from mom to explore the magic of the world around her. While she remains a momma’s girl for now, she always keeps her eyes on the action from the safety of Bonita’s belly. Bonita and Juanito are wonderful parents, and the family frequently engages in group grooming and cuddle sessions.
At the DLC, mongoose lemurs are generally given Spanish names.
With a tax-deductible donation of $20,000 to the DLC’s Animal Care Fund or General Operations Fund, you can name and symbolically adopt Bonita’s infant! To get started, please email us at adoptalemur@duke.edu. We can’t wait to hear from you!
