Join us for an evening with the Duke Lemur Center’s other remarkable primates – the incredible humans caring for and studying all things lemur! This informal, open house-style event will bring you behind the scenes to learn and chat with experts from our Research, Husbandry, Museum, Veterinary, and Education teams. You can chat primate hibernation with DLC Research Scientist Dr. Ana Breit, learn how we treat complicated lemur health issues with Dr. Julie Ter Beest, hear what it takes to train a pregnant lemur for voluntary ultrasounds from Curator of Behavioral Management Meg Dye, and so much more!
What? This is an informal, open house-style event where you’ll be able to wander behind the scenes in our main building (home of the animal care team) and the Anna Borruel Codina Center for Lemur Medicine and Research (home of our veterinary and research teams). We will also have our DLC Museum of Natural History represented on our outdoor patio with fossils, 3D prints, and more to explore! The DLC is full of people that are full of lemur science, facts, and stories, and we would love nothing more than to share them with you. So, if spending your Saturday evening diving deep into all things lemur science, care, evolution, and conservation, AND supporting our mission to study and protect lemurs from Durham to Madagascar sounds like a good time, this event is for you!
This event is BYOB – you’re welcome to bring any beverage and snacks you would like to enjoy as you chat with our lemur experts.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This event focuses on the fascinating humans of the DLC, so we will not be viewing any lemurs or lemur enclosures during this event. If you’re looking for an opportunity to see the lemurs, please check out our tour options at this link.
Who? There is no formal age limit on this event, but since we are focusing on pretty complex themes, we recommend it for folks at least ages 10 and up.
When? Saturday January 31, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
How much? $20 plus tax per person
As with all of our tours and events, every ticket sold goes right toward our mission of studying and protecting lemurs!
