The Duke Lemur Center is funded by three main sources: Duke University, the National Science Foundation and private donations.
Your tax-deductible donations make it possible to provide the food, veterinary and keeper care and equipment necessary to care for our irreplaceable colony each and every day.
Private donations and grants fund 100% of the Lemur Center’s conservation efforts in Madagascar to save and protect wild lemurs and their natural habitats.
Online giving is quick, simple, and secure! Donors are welcome to identify a specific area or fund to which their donation will be applied:
1. Duke Lemur Center – gifts go toward the DLC’s general operating fund to be used in the area where they are most urgently needed
2. Adopt-A-Lemur Program Fund – gifts are applied toward the care of the animals here at the Center. The average cost of a lemur’s care is $7,400 per lemur per year. Adoption packages range from $50 to $7,400 annually.
3. Madagascar Programs Fund – gifts go toward the Lemur Center’s SAVA conservation work “on the ground” in Madagascar

If you’d rather not donate online, you’re also more than welcome to mail a check. Checks can be made payable to “Duke University” and sent to: Duke Lemur Center c/o Development Department, 3705 Erwin Road Durham, NC 27705.

With each adoption, you or your chosen recipient will receive a welcome packet and quarterly updates and photos of the lemur of your choice. Your adoption donation goes toward the $7,400 per year cost it takes to care for each animal at the DLC, as well as aiding our conservation efforts in Madagascar. The lemurs themselves stay here at the Center, so we do the dirty work and you don’t have to scoop the poop!
