 Primate Adventures!

(Age 3 - Kindergarten)
We'll have a great time listening to a lemur story, coloring in lemur masks and learning to leap like lemurs!

Just the Basics - An Introduction to Primates

(1 st grade and up)
What makes a primate a primate? Explore the characteristics shared by various primates, and what makes prosimians different from monkeys, apes, and humans. We'll leap like lemurs, investigate our hands and eyesight, as have fun with other activities.

January - March

Creatures of the Night

Explore the world of the aye-aye, a very unusual, nocturnal lemur. Find out why it has such large ears and a long finger on each hand. We'll discover ways nocturnal animals see in the dark and find food at night.

April - June

Let's Travel

Manao ahona! That means "Hello" in Malagasy. Learn about the people, culture, and land of Madagascar. Play a song on a traditional instrument and have fun exploring the etiquette and fadys (taboos) of this amazing land.

July - September

Observational Methods

Research is not only done in a library, a laboratory, or on the internet. One method of research at the Lemur Center involves observing. Learn various observational methods and how to recognize individual animals.

October - December

Madagascar Animals and Their Homes

Celebrate Earth Day! Learn about the amazing and rare animals located on the island of Madagascar. Investigate the cause and effect of extinction and what we can do to help save endangered species both at home and abroad.

Program availability

The programs are offered Monday thru Saturday, the hours of the programs vary depending on the availability of educators and the requirements of the group.

Program Length

The programs vary in length, depending on type of program and age level of the group. It is best to plan on being at the Center for 1½ hours for each program.

Required chaperones (includes teachers, parents and all other adults)

We require one adult chaperone for every 15 students 4th - 12th grade and one chaperone for every 7 students preschool - 3rd grade. Please note that although we require chaperone involvement it is important that we limit the number of chaperones to no more than 5 per group! Chaperones help make the Center a safe and fun learning experience.

Payment

We accept school purchase orders, credit cards, checks and cash. We require a 50% deposit two weeks prior to your group's visit, this can be made via the phone using a credit card. Group leader should gather cash before check-in.
