Habitat : Various types of eastern forest in association with bamboo and bamboo vines
Diet : Mostly bamboo, primarily new shoots and leaf bases. Supplemental food sources are fig leaves, grass stems, young leaves and small fruit.
Lifespan : 15 years in captivity
Sexual maturity : 2 years
Mating : very seasonal June - August
Gestation : approximately 150 days, infants are born between October and January
